About Me

Hi, I’m Sarah!

I’m a writer, memoirist, and ghostwriter.

My essays have been published in The Hudson Review, Entropy, Cutthroat Journal, Common Boundary, and The Washingtonian.

My work has been noted in Best American Essays, honored for Literary Excellence by the DC Commission on the Arts and the Barry Lopez Award for Creative Nonfiction, and nominated for a Pushcart Prize.

I have an MFA in Creative Writing from American University, and have been a resident at the Cummington Colony for the Arts, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference at Middlebury College.

My professional background is varied: I’ve served in leadership roles at Omega Institute in New York’s Hudson Valley, led backpacking trips through California’s Trinity Alps, taught for a decade in Virginia’s public schools, and worked on a diversity of communication and marketing contracts.

As a traveler, I’ve walked the entire Camino de Santiago, portions of the Pacific Crest and Appalachian Trails, rafted the Colorado River, introduced my son to hostels across Europe, and pitched my tent in numerous national parks.

My volunteer efforts include community theatre production, tutoring, and bagging at the food pantry.
